Pea soup for everybody!

We’ve noticed that we have a lot of foreign people reading our blog. We at Cultiem think that’s awesome and we thank you a lot! Because of our fans overseas and also the fans in Europe, we decided to do a Holland’s special in English, so that you are able to read it, especially for you guys!

Fall is coming here in the Netherlands and that means that winter is approaching. What we like to do in our small country, is make food that can be linked to the current season. With the temperatures going down, we all love to eat pea soup. You might think: yuk, pea soup! But you’re wrong. Pea soup is one of the most beloved meals here in Holland, because of it’s delicious taste, when made correctly. I’m not implying that people in other countries do it wrong, but they simply can’t make it the way we do. And that is why we are giving you the delicious recipe of pea soup!

What you need:
·         1 pack of split peas (400 grams), dried
·         2 big fresh cut leeks, a giant piece of turnip-rooted celery, a giant carrot, an onion and celery
·         1 huge potato
·         2 cubes of bouillon (this is very low on salt)
·         If you like meat in your soup: a smoked sausage or some pork, which you can cut in cubes. It tastes great in this soup.

Pea Soup Recipe – For a delicious pea soup, you have to wash the split peas, preferably several times. Soaking is not required. Put the split peas, the pea package or fresh cut vegetables in a pan with two liters of water. The diced potatoes, pork belly and bouillon cubes are put in as well. Boil it and then let is simmer for at least an hour.

When you can’t see a single pea and the soup is well bound, it is almost ready to serve.
All you need to do now is add a smoked sausage. Cut it into slices and add it. You can add a little pepper and/or salt, but that depends on personal preferences.

And there you have it, your own pea soup! Enjoy!
